Aussie juniors in action at Wimbledon
By Tennis Australia
Fifteen-year-old Bernard Tomic (Qld), the reigning Australian Open boys’ singles champion, is the top seed at the 2008 Wimbledon Junior Championships.
After a quarterfinal loss at the French Open, Tomic is relishing the opportunity to use his hard, flat ground strokes on the quick grass courts and could prove hard to beat.
In the first round, Tomic faces wildcard Carlos Boluda-Purkiss.
Also aged 15, the Spanish prodigy has reached the semis of four Grade 1 or 2 ITF events this year, and won the Racquette D’or in Morocco.
However, his best results have been on clay or hard court, with no evidence of any grasscourt activity.
