Bernard Tomic is through to the second round of the Perth International after a strong performance in his first round match.

The current Australian Open Boys Champion, Tomic dominated No.7 seed Hayden Lewis, taking the match in straight sets 6-2 6-1.

The win will boost the confidence of 16-year-old Tomic who has made the step out of junior tournaments and into Pro Circuit events this year.

Tomic will now meet fellow Australian Todd Reid in the second round on Thursday.

Reid, a boys’ championships finalist at Australian Open 2002 and a former Wimbledon Junior Champion, is returning to the professional circuit following several injuries that have kept him off the tour.

With a career-high ranking of 105 in the world, Reid is hoping to regain form and fitness prior to returning to the professional circuit full time.

The Perth International concludes next Sunday with the men’s and women’s finals commencing at 12:00 pm at the State Tennis Centre Burswood.
