Bernard’s blog: 22 October, 2008
Yesterday it was my 16th birthday and I was presented with a surprise birthday cake at Happy Valley, where I am playing this week in a Futures event.
I’m not keen on presents that much so instead I celebrated by chilling out in the afternoon and going to the movies last night before resting ahead of my singles and doubles matches today.
I had a good win in the first round of doubles yesterday with Jared Easton, which was good because it was my first ever doubles match in a Futures event.
Jared has already played in three Futures doubles finals so he’s quite experienced and it was great to play with a fellow Queenslander.
He lives about 20 minutes away from me on the Gold Coast and we hit regularly together so when we found out we were both coming down for this tournament we organised to team up.
I really enjoy playing doubles because you learn a lot about how to work as a team and I find it also helps my singles game.
Today, I am playing No. 7 seed Jurek Stasiak in the first round of singles so hopefully I can get a good result.
I haven’t seen him play before so I’ve just got to get out there and see what he’s like in the first few games and be prepared for anything.
When I head back to the Gold Coast next week I’m going Barramundi fishing in Gladstone for a few days with a couple of friends so that will be really good.
I enjoy going fishing around the canals back home but it hasn’t been that good in the canals the last few years so hopefully when we get up to Gladstone we can catch lots of Barramundi.
I’m also looking forward to watching the Gold Coast Indy, which is on this weekend.
I’ve been the last few years and watching all the thrills and spills is heaps of fun.
