Tomic makes quarterfinals
Bernard Tomic has progressed to the quarterfinals of the US Open junior championship with a three-set third-round victory over Swedish left-hander Tobias Blomgren.
The third-seeded Tomic prevailed 4-6 6-1 6-2 and next faces Brazilian Tiago Fernandes for a place in the last four at Flushing Meadows.
Still only 16, Tomic has now reached the quarterfinals or better at all four junior grand slam events.
Last year, at just 15, he became the youngest-ever junior grand slam champion title when he won the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.
