Tomic reaches Burnie quarters

Bernard has backed up his impressive showing at the Australian Open by reaching the quarterfinals of the Burnie International in Tasmania.
Tomic, who received a wildcard into the tournament, beat Japan’s Jun Mitsuhashi in the first round 4-6 7-6(3) 6-3 to set up a re-match with compatriot Marinko Matosevic.
The pair last met at the Perth International in December and it was another even contest this time around, with Tomic eventually victorious in three sets 6-0 4-6 7-6(6).
In Friday’s quarterfinals, Tomic went down to Optus Davis Cup teammate Peter Luczak 6-3 6-3.
Another Aussie rising star, Brydan Klein, took out the men’s singles title on Monday.
