Bernard to open against Ramos
Bernard Tomic will begin his US Open campaign against Spain’s Albert Ramos, having landed in the same section of the draw as Roger Federer.
The 20-year-old Aussie has never before faced the Spaniard, ranked 22 places below Tomic at world No.74.
Should Tomic win that battle, he faces a likely second round match-up against 11th seed Kei Nishikori of Japan.
Looming in the fourth round is No.7 seed Roger Federer, with the projected quarterfinal opponent to be second seed and US Open favourite Rafael Nadal.
Despite being landed in arguably the toughest section of the men’s draw, Tomic will face little pressure when it comes to defending points in New York, thanks to his second-round loss to Andy Roddick last year.
The US Open main draw kicks off on Monday 26 August.
