Bernard advances in Bogota
Bernard Tomic has advanced in Bogota with a straight-set victory in the opening round of the Claro Open Colombia.
The Australian raced to a 6-3 6-3 win over Uzbek Farrukh Dustov in just 58 minutes.
Tomic takes his place in the second round where he will face the winner of the match between local Alejandro Falla and Japan’s Tatsuma Ito.
The 21-year-old wildcard was dominant on serve against Dustov, firing 10 aces (and no double faults), landing 77 per cent of his first serves, winning 86 per cent of those points and not once facing a break point.
Tomic has shown signs of a return to form after several months on the sidelines earlier this year due to double hip surgery; during the recent grasscourt season he won his first round matches in Queens, Eastbourne and Wimbledon.
