Bernard beats Burgos to reach Bogota final

Bernard Tomic has defeated Victor Estrella Burgos to set up a clash with defending champion Ivo Karlovic in the final of the ATP Claro Open in Bogota, Colombia.

The Australian won the semifinal 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 7-6(5) to reach his first final since January’s Sydney International.

Tomic, a wildcard ranked 124th, is expected to return to the world’s top 100 following his performance in Colombia, which marks his first tour-level final appearance outside of Australia.

Big-serving Croatian Karlovic, who is the world No.29, fired 22 aces on his way to booking his place in the final with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 win over fellow veteran Radek Stepanek.

The match will be Karlovic’s second tour final in a week, after falling to Tomic’s compatriot Lleyton Hewitt 3-6 7-6(4) 6-7(3) at the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport.
