Bernard sets up Ferrer clash

Bernard Tomic has won his opening round match at the US Open with a straight-sets win over German Dustin Brown.

The 21-year-old completed a 7-6(2) 6-4 7-6(3) victory to advance to the second round, where he will meet fourth seed Davis Ferrer.

Tomic produced a backhand winner to bring up match point in the third-set tiebreak, and sealed victory with a forehand winner on Court 5 at Flushing Meadows.

Tomic was relieved to have knocked over Brown in three sets.

“I dug deep and I played well,” Tomic said.

“I played the right tennis. It was what I needed to do against Dusty because we all know what he is capable of doing.

“He can beat anyone. He has done that before. He has beaten Nadal and has had wins over Lleyton, so you have to be ready for him.”

So great to see you playing like you know you can! Especially after surgery in Jan-that may seem like a long time ago but not at all when surgery is involved. Smart too, to defer Ferrer match: can’t mess with hips ever! I operate pretty much on instinct and believe your time to shine is near – will be huge! in 2005 I told my tennis buds that Djokovic would definitely be #1: they harassed me nonstop-loved it,,,,then came 2011.. ha…. a lot of feet in a lot of mouths,, love that too,,, listen to Germans even if they live in Tucson, Best always Bernard-
